Our team isn’t only about how well the students represent Pratt as competitors. They are equally devoted to community service in many forms and – not for the first time – have just won the Athletic Department’s Team Engagement Recognition Award. This Award “acknowledges a team that has been the most involved throughout the school year. This team has been the most active within the athletics department and the general Pratt community. They have had the most involvement in community service events, social events, and leadership, development, & wellness events.” Notably, they partner with the Fine Arts Department to bring their horses for Horses on Campus Day to ensure the safety as well as the enjoyability of the day, and they have donated about 250 hours per academic year to a therapeutic riding program.
“The most rewarding part of volunteering with Seaside 4 Therapeutic Riding has been seeing the progress that some of the children have made throughout my time on the team. Being able to help them, even if it is only for a few days each semester, makes me feel like I am contributing to something meaningful. It’s rewarding to know that I can help create an environment where the children can spend time around horses, play games, take lessons, and interact with others. I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to participate in this experience and to be a small part of these children’s lives.” – Maria Alcivar
